Is Lightning Lane Worth It for a Group? A Disney World Guide
The short version: for most groups, Lightning Lane Multi Pass is worth it on a busy Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios day when your must-do list is longer than what you can ride in the first hour or two. It's often not worth it on a day when your big rides fit into Early Entry and the first part of the morning. Buy Single Pass only for the riders who want it, and only for a ride you can't get to first thing. Premier Pass is priced per person, so for a group of 6–10 it's rarely the right call.
The catch for groups is that every pass is per person. A $30 decision for one person is a $180 decision for six. Here's how to do the math and decide park by park.
Rules on this page were checked on Disney's Lightning Lane page on Oct 14, 2026. Prices come from the WDWMAGIC price tracker, which records the price shown in the My Disney Experience app each morning. Prices change by date; the app shows the real price up to 21 days ahead.
The three passes in one minute
| Pass | What you get | Priced by |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning Lane Multi Pass | Book up to 3 experiences and arrival windows in one park ahead of time. After you use one, you can book another (subject to availability). Includes digital downloads of select attraction photos and videos from your day. | Park and date, per person |
| Lightning Lane Single Pass | One entry to one of the "most in-demand" rides, which aren't part of Multi Pass. You can buy up to 2 Single Passes per day. | Ride and date, per person |
| Lightning Lane Premier Pass | One entry to each available Lightning Lane experience in one park for one day, with no arrival windows. Limited quantities. | Park and date, per person |
Lightning Lane Multi Pass replaced Disney Genie+, and Single Pass replaced individual Lightning Lane (Disney). Standby lines are still there for everything.
What a group actually pays
Per-person prices recorded by WDWMAGIC for the four weeks after Oct 14, 2026, multiplied out for common group sizes. These are before tax.
Multi Pass, per day
| Park | Per person | Group of 4 | Group of 6 | Group of 10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom | $29–$42 | $116–$168 | $174–$252 | $290–$420 |
| Hollywood Studios | $27–$37 | $108–$148 | $162–$222 | $270–$370 |
| EPCOT | $26–$32 | $104–$128 | $156–$192 | $260–$320 |
| Animal Kingdom | $17–$29 | $68–$116 | $102–$174 | $170–$290 |
Since the current passes launched in July 2024, WDWMAGIC has recorded Multi Pass prices from $15 to $45 per person, depending on park and date.
Single Pass, per ride
| Ride | Park | Per person (next 4 weeks) |
|---|---|---|
| Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance | Hollywood Studios | $24–$25 |
| TRON Lightcycle / Run | Magic Kingdom | $21–$25 |
| Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind | EPCOT | $21–$25 |
| Avatar Flight of Passage | Animal Kingdom | $17–$20 |
| Seven Dwarfs Mine Train | Magic Kingdom | $13–$18 |
Premier Pass, per day: Magic Kingdom $379–$449, Hollywood Studios $329–$349, EPCOT $189–$249, Animal Kingdom $159–$199 per person. For a group of six at Magic Kingdom, that's $2,274–$2,694 before tax.
Two things that lower the bill: - Kids under 3 don't need a pass. They don't need a park ticket either, and can go through Lightning Lane with a family member who has one, as long as they meet the ride's height rules (planDisney). - You don't have to buy for everyone. When you buy, you choose who's included, so you can buy a Single Pass just for the four people who'll ride Rise of the Resistance. If the whole party is getting Multi Pass and only some want a Single Pass the same day, planDisney says you'll need two separate transactions (planDisney).
The tier rule (why your first pick matters)
At three parks, Multi Pass splits rides into two groups. You can pick at most one from the first group, then fill the rest from the second. It's an easy rule to miss, and chat-based planners sometimes do. Here's Disney's list as of Oct 14, 2026:
| Park | First group (pick up to 1) | Second group (examples) |
|---|---|---|
| Magic Kingdom | Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan's Flight, Space Mountain, Tiana's Bayou Adventure | Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, "it's a small world", Under the Sea, Dumbo, The Barnstormer, Mad Tea Party, Mickey's PhilharMagic and more |
| EPCOT | Frozen Ever After, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Test Track | Soarin' Across America, Spaceship Earth, Mission: SPACE, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, Living with the Land, Turtle Talk With Crush, Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival |
| Hollywood Studios | Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, Slinky Dog Dash | Toy Story Mania!, Tower of Terror, Star Tours, Alien Swirling Saucers, and shows including Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! |
| Animal Kingdom | No tiers: pick any 3 | Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, Na'vi River Journey, Kali River Rapids, Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue... and Beyond!, Feathered Friends in Flight!, Zootopia: Better Zoogether! |
Single Pass covers the rides left out of Multi Pass: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run (Magic Kingdom), Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (EPCOT), Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Hollywood Studios) and Avatar Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom).
For mixed-age groups: at Hollywood Studios, Slinky Dog Dash and Runaway Railway are both in the first group, so you have to choose one of them. A common approach is to ride one first thing in the morning and book the other.
When Lightning Lane is worth it for a group
- Your must-do list doesn't fit in the morning. If Early Entry plus the first hour or two covers your group's big rides, you need less help in the afternoon.
- You can't rope-drop. Off-site groups without Early Entry, groups with babies who won't be at the gate early, and groups who'd rather sleep in all get more out of booked return times.
- You take a midday break. If the crew leaves for the hotel around lunch, you're giving up a chunk of park time. Afternoon return windows let you fit the shared rides in after the break.
- Grandparents or small kids can't stand in long lines. A Multi Pass return window for a seated show or a gentle ride is a guaranteed time without a long wait on your feet. (For guests with developmental disabilities like autism, Disney's free Disability Access Service is a separate option.)
When to skip it
- The day's must-dos fit in the morning. In our sample plan, the Animal Kingdom day buys no Multi Pass picks because the big rides are done in the morning. It calls Multi Pass optional unless you want Na'vi River Journey without its typical ~55-minute standby, and suggests an optional Single Pass for Flight of Passage.
- Only some of the group wants the big ride. Use Single Pass for those riders, or Rider Switch (on rides from Disney's Rider Switch list) if a parent is waiting with a child. Don't buy Multi Pass for ten people to save one ride.
- Your group is happy doing fewer rides. Lightning Lane buys more rides per day, not a better day. Plenty of groups would rather spend the money on a nice dinner.
How to book Lightning Lane for a group
- Link everyone first. Before booking day, make sure everyone is on your Family & Friends list in My Disney Experience and has valid park admission, so one person can buy for the whole group (Disney FAQ).
- Know your booking day. Guests of Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels can buy 7 days before check-in for their whole stay (up to 14 days). Everyone else can buy 3 days ahead (with date-based tickets, 3 days before the ticket's first day, for all its days). Booking opens at 7:00 am Eastern Time on your first eligible day.
- Pick for everyone, then adjust. At purchase, your 3 Multi Pass selections must be the same for everyone in the transaction. After buying, you can change the selections and arrival windows for some members (subject to availability). That's useful when your thrill crew and little crew want different rides.
- Know the limits. One Lightning Lane entry per attraction, per day, per pass. Passes are nonrefundable and nontransferable. You can change the park or date until you use your first selection that day.
- Book more as you go. Once you use a Multi Pass selection (or its window passes), you can book another one in the app, one at a time, until park closing. With Park Hopper, the next one can be in a different park.
How Queue & Crew handles Lightning Lane
Every day in a Queue & Crew plan has a Lightning Lane section that:
- says whether Multi Pass is worth it that day, or to skip it,
- picks the rides to book while following Disney's one-from-the-first-group rule,
- suggests return-window times that fit the day's schedule,
- names any Single Pass ride and how many people need it (only the riders),
- gives your exact booking date and time (7:00 am ET, 7 or 3 days ahead, depending on where you stay), and
- estimates the cost for your group from public price trackers, labeled as an estimate.
It also gives you calendar reminders (.ics files) for the booking date and the 60-day dining window. Disney sets the actual price by date, so confirm it in the app.
Queue & Crew is $19 per trip for Walt Disney World groups of up to 10. Day 1 is free to preview, with no account and no payment. After you unlock the full trip, sales are final except in the cases in our refund policy.

FAQ
Is Lightning Lane Multi Pass worth it for a family of 6?
It depends on the park and your list. At the per-person prices recorded for the four weeks after Oct 14, 2026, Multi Pass for six people costs about $174–$252 a day at Magic Kingdom and $102–$174 at Animal Kingdom, before tax. It's usually worth it on a busy Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios day with a long must-do list. On days when your big rides fit into the morning, it's often worth skipping.
Does everyone in the group need to buy Lightning Lane?
Only the people who'll use it. You choose who's included when you buy, so you can buy a Single Pass just for the riders who want it. Kids under 3 don't need a pass at all.
When can I book Lightning Lane for my group?
Guests at Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels can buy 7 days before check-in for their whole stay (up to 14 days). Everyone else can buy 3 days before their park visit. Booking opens at 7:00 am Eastern Time. Link everyone on your Family & Friends list first so one person can book for the group.
Can different people in my group book different Lightning Lane rides?
Yes. When you buy Multi Pass for your party, the first 3 selections have to be the same for everyone. After purchase, you can change the selections and times for some members, subject to availability.
What's the difference between Multi Pass and Single Pass?
Multi Pass covers many rides and shows in one park: you book up to 3 at a time and add more as you use them. Single Pass is one entry to one of the most in-demand rides that aren't in Multi Pass, such as Rise of the Resistance or TRON. You can buy up to 2 Single Passes per day.
Is Lightning Lane Premier Pass worth it for a big group?
Rarely. Premier Pass is priced per person per park (recorded at $379–$449 per person at Magic Kingdom in the four weeks after Oct 14, 2026), so a group of six would pay over $2,200 for one day. Multi Pass plus a split morning usually gets a mixed-age group most of the same rides for much less.
