Disney World with Toddlers and Grandparents: A Sample Itinerary
The short version: with a toddler and grandparents in the same group, plan each park day around three things: a morning split by height (big kids and parents ride, the toddler and a grandparent do rides with no height limit), Rider Switch on the rides Disney lists, and a long midday hotel break with lunch and dinner as regroup points. Below is the real two-day plan our planner made for a made-up crew of six, unedited.

The crew
A made-up family: grandparents aged 72 and 69, parents 38 and 36, and two kids aged 6 and 2. They stay at a Disney Resort hotel (so they get Early Theme Park Entry), pick a relaxed pace, turn on split crews, and choose Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Slinky Dog Dash as must-dos. Dates: Jan 12–13, 2027, Magic Kingdom then Hollywood Studios.
How the planner handled the ages
- Split by height, not by generation. The 69-year-old grandparent joins the thrill crew with the parents and the 6-year-old; the 2-year-old and the 72-year-old grandparent form the little crew.
- Rider Switch on the big rides. Every morning ride with a height limit carries Disney's Rider Switch note, so an adult can wait with anyone too short and then ride without lining up again.
- A long rest. On a relaxed pace the plan sends everyone back to the hotel after lunch until about 4:00 pm, then regroups again for dinner.
- Two regroup points a day. Lunch in a named area of the park, and dinner.
Height rules on this plan's rides
From our ride catalog (a snapshot; check each attraction's Disney page and the app before you go):
| Ride | Minimum height |
|---|---|
| Seven Dwarfs Mine Train | 38 in |
| Space Mountain | 44 in |
| Slinky Dog Dash | 38 in |
| Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance | 40 in |
| Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets | 48 in |
| The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror | 40 in |
The little crew's rides in the plan (the carousel and tea cups at Magic Kingdom; Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway and Toy Story Mania! at Hollywood Studios) have no height limit.

The plan, exactly as our planner wrote it
Day 1 · Tue Jan 12 · Magic Kingdom
8:15 Meet: front gate
Crew of 6. Early Entry starts 30 min before official opening; check that day's park hours in the app.
8:30 Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Min 38 in)
Early Entry rope drop, while the line is shortest. Why first: it's a Single Pass ride whose line builds fast after opening. Rider Switch: one adult waits with anyone too short, then up to 2 people from the waiting group ride without lining up again. If you miss it at opening, Lightning Lane Single Pass is about $10–$18 per person (WDWMAGIC price tracker, Oct 14, 2026; check the app).
8:30 Little ones: carousel & tea cups
Same-time plan for anyone sitting this one out.
8:30 Split up: thrill crew & little crew
Thrill crew (ages 69, 38, 36, 6): Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain. Little crew (ages 2, 72): carousel, tea cups. Regroup: Liberty Square / Frontierland at 11:15 am for lunch, and again at dinner.
9:25 Space Mountain (Min 44 in)
Rider Switch: one adult waits with anyone too short, then up to 2 people from the waiting group ride without lining up again.
10:15 Snack + water refill
11:15 Lunch + crew regroup (quick service)
Everyone meets at Liberty Square / Frontierland, including anyone who split up for Rider Switch or other rides. Kid-friendly pick: Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. Place the mobile order in the app about 30 minutes before lunch and tap "I'm here" when the crew arrives.
12:30 Back to hotel — rest/pool
Until about 4:00 pm.
4:15 Peter Pan's Flight
Standby (Multi Pass is a skip today; typical standby about 48 min, midday average 11am–5pm, our estimate).
5:15 Dinner + crew regroup
Whole crew back together. Table service needs a reservation (opens 60 days out).
9:00 Happily Ever After fireworks
Usually around 9:00 pm — check the times in the app on the day.
Multi Pass today: skip. The planner's note, word for word: Lightning Lane Multi Pass: probably skip today; by our rule (45+ minutes saved for optional, 90+ for worth it) your picks save about 38 minutes in total (midday average 11am–5pm, our estimate). If you buy it anyway, pick Peter Pan's Flight. Peter Pan's Flight is in the plan at 4:15 in standby (about 48 min, midday average 11am–5pm, our estimate). To skip that wait, ride it at opening instead of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (8:30), during Early Entry. Optional: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Lightning Lane Single Pass, about $10–$18 per person; TRON Lightcycle / Run Lightning Lane Single Pass, about $19–$25 per person (WDWMAGIC price tracker, Oct 14, 2026; check the app).
Day 2 · Wed Jan 13 · Hollywood Studios
8:15 Meet: front gate
Crew of 6. Early Entry starts 30 min before official opening; check that day's park hours in the app.
8:30 Slinky Dog Dash (Min 38 in)
Early Entry rope drop, while the line is shortest. Why first: it's an outdoor family coaster near the entrance to Toy Story Land, and its line grows soon after opening. Rider Switch: one adult waits with anyone too short, then up to 2 people from the waiting group ride without lining up again.
8:30 Little ones: Runaway Railway & Toy Story Mania
Same-time plan for anyone sitting this one out.
8:30 Split up: thrill crew & little crew
Thrill crew (ages 69, 38, 36, 6): Slinky Dog Dash, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Little crew (ages 2, 72): Runaway Railway, Toy Story Mania. Lightning Lane: Everyone who uses Lightning Lane needs their own pass and their own return time (Disney: one entry per ride, per day, per pass). Disney sells your party the same Multi Pass picks, then lets you change the picks and return times for some members in the app, so each crew can hold different ones (subject to availability). Thrill crew: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. Little crew: skip Multi Pass today; the rides they can do have short lines or were done this morning. Regroup: Sunset Boulevard at 11:15 am for lunch, and again at dinner.
9:25 Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Min 40 in)
Rider Switch: one adult waits with anyone too short, then up to 2 people from the waiting group ride without lining up again. Buy Lightning Lane Single Pass: about $20–$25 per person (WDWMAGIC price tracker, Oct 14, 2026; check the app). Head count: 4 (thrill crew).
10:15 Snack + water refill
11:15 Lunch + crew regroup (quick service)
Everyone meets at Sunset Boulevard, including anyone who split up for Rider Switch or other rides. Kid-friendly pick: Rosie's All-American Café. Place the mobile order in the app about 30 minutes before lunch and tap "I'm here" when the crew arrives.
12:30 Back to hotel — rest/pool
Until about 4:00 pm.
4:15 Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (Min 48 in)
Rider Switch: one adult waits with anyone too short, then up to 2 people from the waiting group ride without lining up again. Lightning Lane Multi Pass: book a return window around this time.
5:15 Dinner + crew regroup
Whole crew back together. Table service needs a reservation (opens 60 days out).
8:30 Fantasmic!
Usually around 8:30 pm — check the times in the app on the day.
Multi Pass today: optional. The planner's note, word for word: Lightning Lane Multi Pass picks: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (at most one Tier 1 ride, per Disney's rule). Multi Pass is optional today (saves roughly 50 minutes; midday average 11am–5pm, our estimate). Saved per pick: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets ~50 min; other picks: anything (no other ride saves 10+ min). Book Jan 5, 2027 at 7:00 am ET (resort guests: 7 days before check-in, for the whole stay). Estimated cost for 4 people (the thrill crew; the little crew skips Multi Pass today): about $80–$156 before tax (WDWMAGIC and whistlewhileyouwork.com price trackers, as of Oct 14, 2026). Disney's price varies by park and date, so check the app. Everyone who uses Lightning Lane needs their own pass and their own return time (Disney: one entry per ride, per day, per pass). Disney sells your party the same Multi Pass picks, then lets you change the picks and return times for some members in the app, so each crew can hold different ones (subject to availability).
Who holds which Lightning Lane pass
- Day 2, Hollywood Studios: thrill crew (ages 69, 38, 36, 6) holds Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets; little crew (ages 2, 72) skips Multi Pass (the rides they can do have short lines or were done this morning).
Waits and minutes saved are midday average 11am–5pm, our estimate. Price ranges come from public price trackers with the date shown; Disney sets the real price in the app. For the rules behind the picks, see Multi Pass picks for mixed-age groups.

Build my crew's free Day 1 →Tips for toddlers and grandparents on the same trip
- Pair the toddler with the grandparent who'd rather skip big drops. It turns the morning split into time together, not waiting by an exit. More in Disney World with grandparents and little kids.
- Use Rider Switch for single rides, a split crew for the whole morning. See Rider Switch for groups and how to split up and meet back up.
- Each crew carries its own tickets and a phone with the app, so it can see its own return times.
- Name the lunch spot before you split. The plan gives the area; agree on the exact entrance.

FAQ
Can a toddler and grandparents do Disney World in the same group?
Yes. Split by height in the morning so the toddler and a grandparent do rides with no height limit while the others do the big rides, use Rider Switch on single rides, and take a long midday hotel break.
How does Rider Switch help with a toddler?
With the whole group at the entrance, ask a Cast Member for Rider Switch. One adult waits with the child who is too short while the others ride; then up to 2 people from the waiting group ride without lining up again.
Where should the group meet back up?
At a named area tied to a meal. In the sample plan that is Liberty Square / Frontierland at Magic Kingdom and Sunset Boulevard at Hollywood Studios for lunch, plus dinner.
Is this a real plan?
